Adobe is introducing an AI-powered image generator called Firefly into its popular software, Photoshop. The tool aims to enhance the photo editing process by allowing users to add or delete elements from images using simple text prompts. Firefly can also automatically match the lighting and style of existing images. Currently available in a new Photoshop beta app, Adobe plans to roll out the product to all Photoshop customers by the end of the year. The incorporation of AI technology into Photoshop reflects a growing trend of AI tools being developed to generate written work and images in response to user prompts. Pam Clark, Vice President of Photoshop Product Management and Product Strategy at Adobe, sees generative models as an opportunity to elevate imaging capabilities to a new level. Firefly was initially launched as a web-only beta in March and received positive feedback, with over 70 million images created within the first month. By training the tool on Adobe’s own image collection and publicly available assets, Adobe hopes to avoid the copyright infringement concerns faced by other AI image generator tools that rely on a vast array of online content for training. This move by Adobe demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing users with a more natural, intuitive, and enjoyable editing experience |
